Life 96.5 family members (that’s YOU!) made August great for this year’s Celebrating Families Free Back to School Event at Sioux Falls’ Washington Pavilion.
Along with Prairie View Prevention Services, we made you aware of the need for donations of brand new packages of socks and underwear for the August 20 giveaway for families in need. On that day, families came to the Pavilion to learn more about school schedules, health and safety, and received a free lunch. There were bike helmet and bike giveaways, along with a long line of grateful moms and dads there to pick up a package of both socks and underwear for their growing kiddos. And here are the numbers: 978 children in the giveaway line received over 1,500 packages valued at over $11,000!!!
Darcy Jensen, coordinator of this year’s event, has this to share:
“Many thanks for all the donations! It is great to see the happy faces of so many children. One little boy was so proud of his new underwear he would not even put them down to eat his hotdog. We ran out of smaller boy sizes this year. Our hope is next year we will have enough for everyone. Life 96.5 Radio and the listeners made a huge difference in helping us get the word out and getting so many donations. The Hands and Feet opportunity is a true blessing to Prairie View and the Sioux Falls Community. Thank you so very much! One final word: a Life 96.5 listener heard about the event on Saturday morning, went out and bought 2 bags of underwear and came to volunteer for the event. He was a great volunteer and a regular listener.” Blessings!
