During August, Life 96.5 and Prairie View Prevention Services invited you to donate brand new packages of socks and underwear for the Celebrating Families Free Back to School Fair. The event, which was held Saturday, August 26, brought community resources and families in need together and the results were amazing!
The free event for families was held at the St. Joseph School at the Cathedral at 601 West 4th St. in Sioux Falls. This year approximately 875 people, including over 700 children came to this family event and over 1,400 packages of socks and underwear were given away!
From event coordinator Darcy Jensen:
“Seeing the smiling faces of those who received the packages of new socks and underwear was wonderful. One of my favorite memories this year was the kindergarten student that got his new “Minion” underwear. He walked out saying ‘goodbye dude’ to my husband as he held the package tight to his chest. It warmed my heart to see that smile on his face!”
The event is made possible because of our caring community members, starting with the freshman football players from Washington High School helping to set up the tables, to the many volunteers including a group from Wells Fargo, our 26 vendors, the Dakota Board, and Prairie View staff. Special thanks to St. Joseph School at the Cathedral and the Catholic Diocese for serving as the location host this year.
Finally, thank you to the 96.5 listeners for making this possible! Many blessing to all who helped with donations for this event. YOU made a difference and are truly the hands and feet of Jesus!
