Helping kids with their basic needs is what parents do—and at the rate school age kids grow, it’s a constant challenge to keep on top of their changing sizes and the need for replacement items.

Socks, shoes, underwear, and backpacks with school supplies are items ALL students need, and families who are struggling financially will breathe a little easier after a special day of events designed to help provide those basics at no cost.

This month, Life 96.5 Radio is partnering with Samaritan’s Feet, Prairie View Prevention Services, and The Banquet/SOS. We are teaming up to bring awareness to the resources available to families on Saturday, August 18th.

  • Families in need of assistance can receive free new socks and shoes for their children who come to one of three locations staffed by Samaritan’s Feet staff and volunteers: Hayward Elementary School, First United Methodist and Wesley United Methodist Church.
  • Parents and children can also attend the Celebrating Families Free Back to School Event at St. Joseph Cathedral School and receive information and assistance on health and dental care, safety and school information, plus a complimentary lunch and free packaged socks and underwear for the kids.
  • School-aged children from families in need can receive a free brand new backpack filled with school supplies from The Banquet’s SOS program at Whittier Middle School.

What are the times on August 18th for families in need to receive both the socks and shoes at Hayward Elementary and the Celebrating Families free underwear and school supplies at St. Joseph? Thanks!

I listen to 96.5 constantly, and so does my mom and both my kids. We love it, the music is very uplifting and encouraging! Thank you so much for all that you guys do! It’s so awesome! God Bless!

    1. Hi Lana!

I work for Prairie View Prevention who is organizing the Celebrating Families event. Celebrating Families will run 9am-1pm on Saturday August 18th. We are distributing socks and underwear (one pack of each per kid, kids have to be present with parent(s)). Please call 331-5724 if you have any other questions or want additional information on the vendors who will be present.

The Banquet will be having Project SOS at Whittier Middle School the same day from 9am-4pm where there will be a backpack/school supply distribution. I believe calling 605.335.7066 will get you additional information.

Samaritan’s Feet will be doing the sock/shoe distribution from 9am-12pm I believe. To be sure of location hours try emailing Denise Blomberg at dblomberg@samaritansfeet.org.
