Christmas can be a little brighter for those less fortunate in Sioux Falls, thanks to Sharing Christmas.
Sharing Christmas, (formerly The Holiday Clearing House) was created as a way to centralize distributing holiday assistance to needy families in Sioux Falls. The program matches needy families at the holidays with a donor family that can help provide gifts, clothes and sometimes even a Christmas meal.
Would you consider bringing joy to a struggling family this holiday season? You can adopt a family to bless this December with the love and compassion of Christ. You’ll ease their financial concerns and put Christmas morning smiles on their faces.
Here’s how it works:
Between October 1 and November 15, families requesting assistance can pick up applications at one of several agencies in Sioux Falls (The Community Outreach, Center of Hope, SD Department of Social Services, Inter-Lakes Community Action, Bright Start, and Veterans Administration). Applications must be submitted to Center of Hope or The Community Outreach prior to November 16th. Applications will be qualified, ages and interests of the family will be recorded, and families will be matched with a ‘donor’.
As a donor, you need to know: 1) how much you wish to spend on gifts; 2) if you wish to meet your matched family or not.
Sharing Christmas will match the family(s) with you, the donor, and provide you with a written summary of the list of needs/gift requests of the family you are matched with. You will purchase gifts, gift cards, groceries, etc. for your adopted family. For ‘closed’ adoptions, gifts will be dropped off at the Boy Scout warehouse at 800 N West Ave and picked up later by the applicant. In an ‘open’ adoption the donor will deliver the gifts directly to the family.
Thank you for taking this opportunity to show the love of Christ in action by adopting a family in need!
