With changes happening all around us due to COVID-19, this is the time for us to follow the command of Jesus when He said “Love your neighbor as yourself” in Mark 12:31. Below you will find several opportunities to help our neighbors in the Sioux Empire at a moment when they need it most.

CORONA HELP SIOUX FALLS:  Churches in the city are coming together to help those in need by delivering necessities to homes where people are unable to leave because of the virus AND spearheading food distributions to ensure every child in Sioux Falls has access to daily nutrition. You can help by making a donation or by volunteering to help with deliveries here.

SIOUX FALLS COMMUNITY BLOOD BANK:  There is an urgent need for blood donors to help supply the needs of local hospitals. Visit one of their donation rooms at Sanford or Avera, or stop by one of their pop-up donation locations. Details here.

DAKOTABILITIES: Homemade fabric masks are needed for staff members. If you can donate masks, please drop them off in the box located at the front doors between 8 am and 4:30 pm at their Longfellow Center, 1116 S. 4th Ave., Sioux Falls, SD 57105.

FOOD FOR SIOUX EMPIRE KIDS:  Volunteers are needed to deliver meals and snacks to children in Sioux Falls. Even volunteering for 30 minutes can make a difference! Learn more at their website.

FEEDING SOUTH DAKOTA EMERGENCY FOOD BOXES FOR NEIGHBORS IN NEED:  Volunteers can help by packing emergency food boxes at Feeding South Dakota that will help feed families who need a little extra food assistance. Volunteers age 11 and up can pack with a parent or guardian, and volunteers age 14 and older may also participate. Learn more here.

FAITH TEMPLE FOOD GIVEAWAY:  Each Friday, boxes of groceries are provided and loaded into vehicles at a drive-thru distribution at 4:00 at the W.H. Lyon fairgrounds in Sioux Falls. Volunteers pack and load boxes for 600 families or individuals age 18 and older. Find out more here.

THE BANQUET: Volunteers are needed more than ever to help serve meals. Individuals can help by joining the Banquet Angels text service (text ANGELS to 605-413-1971). Groups can sign up HERE.

SIOUX FALLS FOOD DISTRIBUTION: The collaborative effort includes Feeding South Dakota, the Helpline Center, Faith Temple Food Giveaway, Corona Help Sioux Falls, and Salvation army. The food distribution is meant to provide supplemental food to households. Centralized Food Distribution volunteers are needed Tuesdays and Thursdays between 11:30 am and 8:00 pm at the W.H.Lyon Fairgrounds.

ONE SIOUX FALLS FUND/SIOUX FALLS AREA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION:  In response to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation, in partnership with the City of Sioux Falls and local businesses, has established the One Sioux Falls Fund. It is a disaster fund to help residents of the Sioux Falls MSA (Minnehaha, Lincoln, McCook and Turner counties) avoid evictions if they are unable to work due to COVID-19. Nonprofits, the County and the City will coordinate to distribute the funds to make sure assistance gets into the right hands. Offer support here.

HELPLINE CENTER/211 VOLUNTEER AND ASSISTANCE INFORMATION:  211 provides a 24/7 hotline which will connect to a trained team that can provide up-to-date information for those in need of food and other basic needs. Learn more here.
