Family Matters Program

5:30 PM - 8:00 PM

St. Michael's Catholic Church will hold a Family Matters Program, a 7-week program that utilizes the Strengthening Families Curriculum 10-14 by Iowa State University.  The program is for families with students ages 10-14.  The core of the program does the following: Parents learn how to show love while setting limits, children develop skills to handle peer pressure and families grow and have fun together.  Beginning Tuesday, October 15 families will come for a meal (provided) at 5:30 and at 6:00 parents and youth will go separate ways and learn on different topics.  At 7:00 the families come back together and do a family session. The total cost of the program is $35 and there are scholarships available.

Sioux County Oratorio Chorus

7:30 PM - 9:30 PM

The Sioux County Oratorio Chorus will begin this year’s season with a special, fall session of rehearsals to get ready for a collaborative performance of the Brahms Requiem, in English, with the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra on April 7, 2020!  Fall rehearsals will be Tuesday evenings from  7:30 to 9:30 from October 22 – November 20 in the choir room at Northwestern College. Regular spring rehearsals will begin again on January 14, 2020.  Join us for this masterpiece of choral literature and see what SCOC is all about!

Newsboys United in concert

Christian pop rock band Newsboys United will bring their Greatness of our God Tour to Northwestern College Thursday evening, October 24.  The concert will begin at 7:00 in the Rowenhorst Student Center.  General admission tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at www.newsboys.com and in Northwestern’s bookstore in the RSC beginning August 26.  Concert-goers can purchase a gold VIP ticket package for $50 which includes an exclusive Q&A session with the Newsboys, early entrance to the concert, a souvenir tour laminate and poster, and access to an exclusive location for purchasing tour merchandise.  A platinum VIP ticket package, available for $125, includes the same perks as the gold VIP ticket package, as well as an exclusive photo opportunity with the band. Family packs and group rates are available for each ticket level.

Hillcrest Church's 14th Annual Craft Bazaar & Bake Sale will be Saturday, October 26 from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.  Crafters include knit and crocheted items, jewelry, wood work, original art, holiday decorations, and paper crafts.  Other vendors include Pampered Chef, Tupperware, Avon, Tastefully Simple, Scentsy, and more!  Very few spots are open for homemade crafts, call 605-371-0546 to register.  All proceeds benefit Hillcrest’s orphan care ministry.

Project Morning Star 5 Year Anniversary Breakfast

NISO Guest Concert - Minneapolis Guitar Quartet

7:30 PM - 9:30 PM

The Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra will open its season, "Symphonic Vision," with a Guest Concert by the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet on Saturday, October 26.  The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the BJ Haan Auditorium on the campus of Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa. Tickets are available at the door the night of the concert. For more information, contact the NISO office at 712-722-6230 or niso@dordt.edu. The Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra is comprised of the finest musicians in the tri-state area. Teaching principals are of a professional caliber and function as first chair players and teachers in sectional rehearsals. The orchestra membership includes adults of all ages as well as gifted music students from area high schools and colleges. Several of the high school students in NISO receive scholarships to continue their private lessons. NISO presents three concerts per season in addition to the annual Concert for Children for 1,000 area 4th/5th/6th grade students. NISO/NISYO is made possible by the generous support of Dordt University, Sioux Center Recreation and Arts Council, Friends of the Symphony, and individual patrons, organizations and business establishments.
